STEP:CHANGE Programme 2018

University of West Indies & Sussex Festival of Performing Arts

STEP:CHANGE is a landmark scheme that creates a unique and exciting platform for young performers to gain international experience in a professional environment and showcase the wonderful creative talent from the Caribbean.

STEP:CHANGE is a collaboration with Sussex Festival of Performing Arts (UK) and PowerHouse Studios (Barbados), and we all share the belief that access to the arts should be for everyone.  The partnership is working together to enhance opportunities for young performers from all walks of life - especially those who have limited access to the arts.  Now in its third year, STEP:CHANGE facilitates superior artistic and life-changing experiences, providing unique pathways for young people to participate in a high calibre festival and to dynamically engage with their international peers for ongoing collaborations.

The first collaboration we initiated was with the Dance Department at UWI
(the University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus/Errol Barrow Centre for the Creative Imagination).

In April 2018 three dance students from UWI wowed audiences when they performed at Sussex Festival's finale event at the Hawth, Crawley.

Christian Gibson, Courtney Walker and Saleem Small took the stage by storm and showcased 4 of their dance pieces, choreographed by Tara-Jane Herbert.

The video below was recorded at the COCO Dance Festival in Trinidad where the students were also invited to repeat their stunning performance of "ICU"
