neXus Transnational Exposition

neXus is a creative exchange between Brighton and Bloemfontein in South Africa - introducing the talents of four visual artists from each region exploring real and imagined social, political and cultural connections. The exhibition is co-curated by urbanflo creative with lead artist Vian Roos and the project is delivered in partnership with Brighton Pride (UK) and Vrystaat Arts Festival (South Africa). neXus is presented as an environmental installation designed to reflect the connective motif, exchange, intersectionality and crossing cultures whilst also paying homage to the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.
The project was launched in July 2019 with a pilot exhibition at Vrystaat Arts Festival and travelled to the UK for Brighton Pride, where the work of lead artist lead artist and co-curator Vian Roos appeared alongside a multi-disciplinary collective including artists Elliss Lewin-Turner, Estabrak Al-Ansari, Dr Gil Mualem-Doron, Heather Glazzard, Lloyd van Schalkwyk, Lyrene Kühn-Botma and Teboho Mokhothu.
Numerous other international guest artists have also been involved in animating the neXus space with their own creative responses to themes using each separate part of the exhibition as a mini stage. UK musician and Spoken Word artist Mrisi headlined an amazing pop up programme in South Africa, performing amongst contemporaries including; Sista Zai (Zambia/Australia), Johann Smith (South Africa), Frenetic Arts (Barbados), Segun Adefila (Nigeria), Jamie Graham (Tasmania), Ukhona Ntsali Mlandu (South Africa), Destro (Zambia), Arifstyle (Senegal), Tshiamo Malatji (South Africa) and Olutobi (Nigeria) to name just a few. Ashé

We produced and co-curated the Ashé visual art exhibtion by artist Lester Mccollin Springer (AKA springercuba).
Lester was born in Cuba and is now living in the UK. He is a professional visual artist and a member of the prestigious UNEAC
(National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba).
Lester's art is mainly figurative, very symbolic and is regarded as an embodiment of Cuban black history, culture and resistance. He pays tribute to his Afro-Caribbean heritage and to the African Diaspora. He uses colours and textures to paint human beings, their emotions and quest for inner truth, exploring culture and values such as equality, freedom and justice through his experiences.

INEXTRICABLE 3/MI21

The focus of the third edition in the INEXTRICABLE series was India’s 70th Anniversary of Independence - celebrated with an exhibition of iconic imagery from the classic Indian film Mother India. Directed by the great Mebhoob Khan, the film has gained cult status resonating with audiences all over the world; transcending cinema to being recognized as a genuine cultural, social and artistic landmark.
This stunning exhibition was produced in collaboration with Kala Phool, whose MI21 project pays homage to the original film through a stripped down 45 minute silent version accompanied by a live electronic and classical music soundtrack.

Due to the success of the first INEXTRICABLE exhibition, the project was extended to run throughout the Brighton Photo Fringe Biennial and featured a pop up installation on the heart of Brighton town centre.

Rocksteady Tea PartyList Item 1

As part of Brighton Fringe, Rocksteady Tea Party was a family celebration of Caribbean influence in Music, Film, Dance, Photography and Spoken Word, marking Jamaica & Trinidad's 50th Anniversary of Independence. The event was a unique cultural fusion of a traditional British Tea Dance with a pulsating reggae beat, featuring exhibitions, performances and 'pop-up' showcases. Featured artists included; Zena Edwards Michael McMillan, Prince Fatty, Hollie Cook, Horseman MC, Sly & Reggie Middle Class Sound System, Khadijatou Doyneh, plus an exclusive screening of the Menelik Shabazz Film "The Story of Lovers Rock".

Roots & Wings was an international touring photography exhibition that involved over 80 artists.
- The project was launched with a 2-week show at the Hawth in Crawley (UK) featuring 24 artists representing the UK and Caribbean.
- The Barbados exhibition featured 38 exhibiting artists plus a further 30 artists on film.
- 4 UK Roots & Wings representatives were invited to attend a cultural exchange in Jamaica as a professional development opportunity and to present their work, participate in the Landscapes II exhibition, extend their networks and to share ideas and experiences.
- Roots & Wings artists and workshop participants also featured in other UK 2012 exhibitions and events including Rocksteady Tea Party, Brighton Photo Fringe Biennial and Black History Month.
